This paper will discuss how post World War II Jewish immigration has had a positive and lasting impact on North Carolina, Southern Appalachia, and ultimately American culture. This is because prior-settled Jewish people, and then the wider American community, became more unified through the addition to Jewish refugees and survivors of the Nazi period. To argue this positive impact, I will relate the stories of Holocaust survivors who started out and continue to contribute and edify the progressive community in Asheville and surrounding Appalachian communities. These people settled in the surrounding Carolinas after ordeals and strife and have more than earned their recognition.
